Liverpool midfielder Thiago facing another spell out injured
The Spanish midfielder made his first appearance of the season during the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal last weekend, with the 32-year-old introduced for the final five minutes at the Emirates.
The Times are reporting that Thiago suffered a setback during that short cameo and is now facing another spell on the sidelines.
Thiago’s absence will come as a major blow to Jurgen Klopp, who has been without the services of the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich star all season and had hoped to call on his experience across the run-in.
News of the player’s latest problem also casts doubt on his long-term future at Anfield, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.
Klopp has regularly talked up his admiration for the midfielder, though the German’s own exit and Thiago’s ongoing fitness problems could see the Spaniard leave Liverpool in the summer.
Thiago joins Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah on the sidelines with the duo recovering from hamstring issues, though Wataru Endo has returned from competing at the Asian Cup with Japan.
