Wednesday, February 28, 2024 - Manchester United has secured its place in the FA Cup's quarter-final after defeating Nottingham Forest courtesy of a late decisive goal from Casemiro in the 89th minute. The clash came to a thrilling climax with the Brazilian netting a dramatic goal assisted by Bruno Fernandes' free-kick. The goal, though initially topped with a VAR controversy, was eventually declared valid.
The exhilirating match was attended by legendary former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, sitting alongside new United director Sir Dave Brailsford as under-pressure boss Erik ten Hag managed to keep the club's cup ambitions alive. Though Manchester United won, the match displayed a wealth of missed opportunities that could've saved them the stress of the late goal, however, the lack of clinical finishes led the match towards an inevitable extra time, until Casemiro's intervention.
Despite a couple of solid attempts by Nottingham Forest’s Divock Origi and Taiwo Awoniyi, they failed to convert their chances, as United's goalkeeper Andre Onana managed to keep a clean sheet. In the absence of Harry Maguire, due to a suspected knee injury, the team had to readjust their tactics for the game. The result does, however, put the team under immense pressure when visiting rivals Manchester City next Sunday.

The victory leaves manager Erik ten Hag on a positive note even though United's performance at times appeared disjointed. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest will have to regroup quickly and focus on more pressing challenges ahead, including their battle to avoid a potential Premier League points deduction for breaking spending rules, a development that could significantly influence their journey to survival in the top-flight.
