According to the Mirror, Girona securing Champions League qualification might pose a problem for Manchester City in loaning their recent acquisition Ezequiel Palacios to their sister club. Consequently, they are contemplating loaning him to other teams.
Palacios joined Manchester City from River Plate in the winter transfer window for €18.5 million, with a loan back to River Plate until January 2025. The original plan was to then loan him temporarily to sister club Girona, also owned by the City Football Group. However, with Girona's Champions League qualification, this has created a "problem" for Manchester City. According to UEFA regulations, clubs under the same ownership cannot complete loan deals in the Champions League.
Girona secured a top-four finish in La Liga last weekend with a 4-2 victory over Barcelona, guaranteeing their first-ever participation in the Champions League. If Girona or Manchester City get eliminated in the group stage and do not face each other in the knockout rounds, Palacios's loan deal won't be affected.
However, reports suggest that Manchester City is considering Real Sociedad, Real Betis, and Las Palmas as potential loan destinations for Palacios.
