The 2024 NBA draft:Atlanta Hawks winning the top pick with a 3% chance

The 2024 NBA draft lottery ceremony took place, with the Atlanta Hawks winning the top pick with a 3% chance, while the Wizards and Rockets secured the second and third picks respectively. The Detroit Pistons, finishing at the bottom of the league for the third consecutive season, only managed to secure the fifth pick. The Spurs secured the fourth and eighth picks.

In this lottery, the Pistons and Wizards had a 14% chance of winning the top pick, while the Hornets had a 13.3% chance. However, the Hornets ended up with the sixth pick, and the Pistons only secured the fifth pick, the lowest possible for them. Despite finishing at the bottom of the league for two consecutive seasons, the Pistons could only secure the fifth pick each time. The Hawks, with a mere 3% chance, were fortunate to win the top pick, their first since 1975, while the Wizards secured the second pick. The Rockets successfully secured the third pick, acquired from the Nets in a previous trade involving Harden.

The Spurs won the fourth pick with their own lottery pick and the eighth pick with the one acquired from the Raptors, protected within the top six.

The NBA draft this year will be split into two days, with the first round held on June 27th and the second round on June 28th.

This year's NBA draft is generally considered to be a down year, mainly due to the lack of exceptionally talented players, with the overall level of the draft class being relatively average. No player has yet emerged as a clear-cut number one pick, but notable prospects include French stars Alex Sal and Zachary Risacher, guards Shepard and Delinham, and reigning triple champion power forward Klingen. LeBron James' eldest son Bronny, and Chinese player Choi Yong-hee have also declared for this year's NBA draft.
