Leicester City officially announced that 37-year-old Jamie Vardy has signed a one-year contract extension

Leicester City officially announced that 37-year-old Jamie Vardy has signed a one-year contract extension with the team, ensuring he will continue playing in the Premier League next season.

The official announcement confirmed that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has extended his contract with the club, allowing him to continue his career at King Power Stadium until the end of the 2024/25 season. The 37-year-old player scored 20 goals in various competitions for Leicester City in the 2023/24 season, bringing his total tally to 190 goals, ranking third in the club's all-time scorers list. Over the years, Vardy has been a core member of the team and has contributed to many of Leicester City's iconic moments.

Since transferring from Fleetwood Town in 2012, Vardy has made 464 appearances for Leicester City, winning the Premier League title, FA Cup, Community Shield, and two Championship titles with the team.

In an interview with Leicester City's official channel, Vardy stated: "I’m very happy with the performance I had last season, but there’s more to come. I take good care of myself, and I always say age is just a number. My legs feel great right now, so I’ll keep going until my legs say 'that’s it, it’s time to stop.' That day will come eventually, but it’s not now.

"We’re looking forward to the Premier League next season and seeing what we can achieve. I’m convinced it’s the best league in the world, and it’s where you want to be playing."

As of now, Vardy is the fourth most-capped player in Leicester City's history. In the 2023/24 Championship season, he scored 18 goals, playing a crucial role in the team’s swift return to the Premier League.

Ten years ago, in the 2013/14 season, Vardy was a key member in Leicester City's promotion to the Premier League, and the following year, he played a vital role in the team’s historic "Great Escape" season.

During Leicester City's Premier League-winning 2015/16 season, Vardy scored 24 league goals, including his record-breaking run of scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League matches. His stunning goal against Manchester United in November 2015 broke Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League games.

In the 2016/17 season, Vardy scored a crucial away goal against Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16, helping Leicester City advance to the quarter-finals, making them the only Premier League team to reach the quarter-finals that season.

In the subsequent seasons, Vardy maintained his sharp scoring ability and form, scoring 23 goals in the 2019/20 season to become the oldest winner of the Premier League Golden Boot and reaching his Premier League century in July 2020.

In the 2020/21 season, Vardy scored 17 goals in all competitions and led the team to their historic first FA Cup victory.

In the 2021/22 season, Vardy scored 17 goals in 33 matches, helping Leicester City win the Community Shield and reach the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.

At the national team level, Vardy made his debut for England in a friendly against Ireland in June 2015, earning 25 caps and scoring 7 goals for the Three Lions. During this period, he participated in Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup.

With this contract extension, next season will mark Vardy’s 13th season with Leicester City, where he will continue to write his legend at King Power Stadium. The team will start preparations for the new Premier League season when players return in July.
