Liverpool Chairman, Tom Werner, Keen to Host Premier League Games Abroad
Liverpool chairman, Tom Werner, has expressed his strong intent to see a Premier League match organized in New York. The idea of holding regular-season games in foreign cities has had a contentious history, with the initial proposition for a '39th game' having been shelved in 2008 due to staunch opposition. However, the idea is considered timely, with Werner being the latest advocate.

In a statement to the Financial Times, Werner suggested multiple locations for Premier League games such as Tokyo, Los Angeles, Rio, and Riyadh in a single day, celebrating the global spirit of the tournament. He suggested the idea of subsidizing travel and accommodation arrangements to ease the financial burden on fans wanting to follow their favorite teams overseas.

On the other hand, Liverpool owner, John W Henry, voiced his disinterest in pursuing this idea. It also hit a wall of protest from supporters' group Spirit of Shankly, reinforcing that there were other important aspects of football that demand attention like ticket prices, independent regulatory oversight, and financial fairness, and the location of games isn't among them.
