Luke Shaw:England team needs to show determination

The 28-year-old Shaw is a key left-back in the England squad, but due to a hamstring injury and the past four months of being sidelined, he hasn't fully recovered for training. This means he will miss England's Euro opener against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday (June 17, Beijing time).

Regarding his injury during the Aston Villa match:
Luke Shaw: "I felt some issues during the Aston Villa match, so I was substituted during the half-time break. Everyone has a responsibility in this matter. Part of it is my fault, part of it is the medical staff's fault, I think everyone would admit that."

"Later, the test results came out, and there wasn't a serious problem. But I didn't train the whole week until the day before the match. If the coach had asked me to play, I would never say no. I shouldn't have played. But I always say, 'For me, the team is more important than anything.' That will never change."

Regarding his injury during the Luton Town match in February:
Luke Shaw: "Of course, I have been working hard to make a comeback. I wanted to play, to participate in the FA Cup final, I think I rushed myself. I returned too quickly, and then my hamstring was injured again, it was a Grade 2 tear. That was three weeks before the final, they told me such an injury would take six weeks to recover. So obviously, that's why I encountered setbacks again."

"Some people came to me and said, 'How can you not play for Manchester United but play for the England team?' But the situation at the time was, I gave my best effort to recover to represent Manchester United, that's what I've been doing throughout the season."

"Of course, as I said, I'm disappointed. But I did what I could, and first and foremost, the most important thing is: to play for Manchester United."

Regarding the upcoming European Championship:
Luke Shaw: "After losing to Iceland in the warm-up match, Solskjaer made it clear in the dressing room that we know we need to do better. We need to improve our mentality, attitude, overall performance, we must do better. It's not shocking. Everyone in the dressing room knows we can do better."

"You look at the players in the dressing room, look at their level and experience, we know we should do better. We could have had a better result. But (losing to Iceland) made us realize that going to Germany won't be an easy journey. It will be very, very difficult, and it will require great determination from the team."

"The training these days has been very tough, the coach had to make some difficult decisions (to finalize the squad). It's never an easy thing. Although these decisions don't directly affect the outcome of the game, perhaps they also have some subtle effects on us."

On June 17th at 3 AM Beijing time, England will face Serbia in the first round of the European Championship group stage.
